Comments from the Chair

The winter is officially over- well at least for the club. The Winter Championship were a great success and now we are starting the summer series. Don’t forget to look out for reports and photographs in local magazines. The winter league and championship are always highly competitive whereas the summer series is aimed at encouraging people to try out at a higher level or just have a little fun on a summer evening without highly competitive pressures. The summer championship will be on 19th September (please note date change) and we will review the date as it currently clashes with the BD national Championships as they have been changed because of the Pope’s visit!

The first set of accounts for the merged club are currently with the auditor. Preliminary figures suggest that we have approximately broken even which is the target for each year as we have a good balance of funds to tide us over any future short term problems and to fund capital purchases like the new club lap top and mobile phone.

Your committee puts on around 20 shows a year and we need a large number of volunteers to help, particularly for the winter series. So I am appealing again for more offers of help including some new committee members. We reward all of our helpers- anyone that helps for ½ a day receives a voucher for a free entry to a class at a club show. We are looking for people with ideas and just a little time to help on the committee, meetings are only around 4 times a year and you get the opportunity to input your ideas into the running of the club. Please don’t wait to be asked, either to be a volunteer at a show or a new committee member- contact Laura on 07533825502or me on 07702023288.

I have been asked to explain the differences between Training Shows and the Test & train day that we will be holding in the Autumn. The Training show is used as a competition so that the two highest placed in each class receive training vouchers to use at club clinics (and receive priority for places before close of entries) and is designed to make riders try out at a higher level than they normally compete. A generous legacy from Mr Jenner of Woodlands Stables enables us to make these awards. Usually each rider in this competition has a slot of 20 minutes but small entries have enabled us to give longer slots int eh recent past. The test and train day is like a clinic but with a judge rather than a trainer. Each rider has a 30 minute slot to ride their test and receive help from the judge but there is no competition and riders can choose to ride at any level .I hope this makes it clearer- I’m sure you’ll let me know if it doesn’t.

The Riding Club team and individual events will take place in July (see article below) and we hope that many people will put themselves forwards to represent the club. The club finances the entry fees that are paid to the Riding Clubs central office for qualifying competitions together with all fees in regards to any riders who qualify for the finals and only the local fees are paid by the riders so riders can compete at the lowest possible cost. Any rider prepared to ride for the club should be prepared to ride at the finals if they qualify (at Lincoln in September for the team event and at Aintree in October for Music classes). Please also note that the Dressage to Music qualifiers are in 20x60 arenas for the first time this year.

BRC are sending out e-newsletters to everyone who has provided an email address so you should start to receive yours soon, They are in negotiation with dressage anywhere.com to hold online classes which are open only to riding club members. In addition, to retain their charitable status they are looking to distribute some of their excess funds to fund training and to market riding clubs to encourage more members. If anyone has any idea about improving the marketing and image of BRC please let me know and I will pass your ideas on to the area rep Lisa Spence. There Is likely to be an area Quiz with a National final to encourage non riders to become more involved.

Thank you to everyone who offered Carly Woodgate the ride on their horse for the Royal Windsor RC finals when her own horse became lame- we wish both Carly (on Diane Pegrum’s veteran Midas) and Michelle 9 on her own Pseudonym) the very best in their quest to win a trip to WEG in September. We understand that ext year the Windsor competition will be a preliminary dressage which will hopefully make it more attractive to many of our members

If any of you have any news of success or anything you would like to share with the other members then please let me know or if you have any comments on any aspects please contact anyone on the committee (see the contact page on here for details).

Summer Series

Once again the time has come for our Summer series to begin. After a fantastic Championship show rounded off the winter season on a sunny note, it leaves us only 9 days until the first of the Summer evening competitions.

Our Summer series is designed to be low key and pressure free. A chance to come and have a go and enjoy yourselves. Either bring a young horse for it's first outing or have a go at the next level with your old faithful, we accomodate everyone and pride ourselves on being friendly, relaxed and encouraging.

We are holding 6 events this summer with tests from Intro to Advanced Medium, we cater for all levels and ages.

So please do come along and see us, either on four legs or two.

We look forward to seeing you.

All competitions will be held at Woodlands Stables, Chingford, London, E4 7RE

Good luck to you all!

Good news: Woodlands is outside of the low emissions zone!

Riding Clubs Area 8 Team News

…It is getting close to the big Liaison Area Qualifier weekend and we need to start thinking about putting some teams together to hopefully build on our fantastic success from last year and get EVEN MORE teams and individuals to the Championships this year! There are 2 events coming up:

Liaison Qualifier Weekend 10th and 11th July at Lordsbridge
This is the same venue as last year, very easy to find off the M11 near Cambridge. It is on grass, as the Championships are on grass, but there is loads of space and the ground is flat and level, and arenas are watered. ALL the DRESSAGE is being held on Saturday 10th July – this is so the arenas are not cut up by people jumping on them! The classes available are:

JUNIORS (under 18 on 1st Jan 2010)
Dressage - Team of 4 with 3 scores to count, 2 riders to ride a prelim test and 2 a novice. Horses/ponies to have 0 BD points for prelim and up to 124 BD points for novice. There is also a junior individuals competition and all team members are automatically entered into the individual competition as well.

Junior pairs dressage – for a pair of riders to ride a test at the same time. This is a set RC pairs test and open to horses with up to 124 BD points
Junior Riding Test – teams of 4 with 3 scores to count. All ride a novice level test, but the marking emphasis is on the rider rather than the horse. Horses to have up to 60 BD points.

SENIORS
Senior Open dressage – for teams of 4 riders with 3 scores to count, and for individuals (all team riders are automatically entered into the individual comp). All riders will ride a different test – there are 3 novice level tests and 1 elementary. Horses doing the novice tests can have up to 124 BD points, and those doing the elementary up to 199 points.
Senior Novice dressage – for teams of 4 riders with 3 scores to count riding horses with 0 BD points. All 4 riders will ride the same Prelim test.
Senior Pairs dressage – for a pair of riders to ride a set test at novice level at the same time. Horses can have up to 124 points.
Medium dressage – this is an individual competition for horses with up to 299 BD points riding a medium test.
Senior Riding Test – teams of 4. 2 riders ride a novice level riding test and 2 an advanced level one but don’t panic, this is not an advanced dressage test! It is basically between a novice and easy elementary level. Judging is based on the rider rather than the horse. Horses can have up to 60 BD points for the novice level and 124 for the advanced.

Dressage to Music Qualifier Sat 24th July at Sparrows Hill, Newport
All tests are ridden in a 20 x 60m arena and on a surface. Please note that if you qualify then the Championships are being held at Aintree, Liverpool (also on a surface) so please only go to the qualifier if you are prepared to travel to Aintree for the Champs should you qualify.

JUNIORS
For individuals only. There are 2 sections, both novice level. One for horses with 0 points and one for horses with 1-124 points

SENIORS
Individuals only, there are 3 classes. Novice dtm with 0 points; novice with 1-124 points and Elementary for horses with up to 199 points.

There is also a Senior Pairs Dressage to Music class where 2 riders ride the test at the same time on horses with up to 124 points.

I know there is a lot of information to take in, so if anyone has any questions please get in touch and I will try to answer them!
We are happy to enter teams and individuals for any and all of the above, but need to know if you are interested.
Entry fees are split into 2; the Club pays the fees that have to go to the BRC office for preliminary entries and we ask individuals to pay the area entry fee so please bear this in mind. Should you qualify for the National Champs then the Club pays all Championship entries.

PLEASE can anyone interested in representing the Club in ANY of the above get in touch with either Rachel Roberts or myself, preferably by email, as soon as possible. We have a huge membership now and with both of us working full time simply don’t have the time to ring round every member, so we rely on you not to be too modest and put yourselves forward!
My email address is emmaequus@btconnect.com and Rachel’s is rplroberts@live.co.uk
