The summer series was as popular as ever and we had a really good turn out for the championship show. Congratulations to all our winners. The full results can be seen on the results page.

Championship Prize Review by Penny Lock - Dressage to Music Champion

The time came for my horse Boy (Benedetto – posh name) to have his annual vaccinations – the difference was that this year we had won the EEFDG Dressage to Music Championships and received a voucher, generously donated by Galley Hill Equine Surgery, for a Free Health Check, Free Vaccination and Free Dental examination – Wow! what a fantastically useful prize.

At the prize giving I had expressed reservation because being stabled in Shenley, I thought I would be too far out of the normal area for Galley Hill Equine Surgery, but the very nice Vet presenting the prizes assured me it was no problem, they covered a wide area and were happy to travel to Shenley.

So as the vaccination due date loomed, I registered our details and arranged a visit date and time. On the day the M25 ran true to form with an accident and gridlock! However I was kept informed that Ralph would be a little late and he duly arrived calm and unflustered with no problems finding the yard.

Boy is shy of anyone he doesn’t know so was rather suspicious at first, puffing and snorting - his heart rate was sky high! However by the time Ralph had given him a quiet but thorough check all over, Boy had relaxed and his heart rate on re-measurement was fine. It was great having a fresh experienced set of eyes look him over and Ralph was very easy to talk to, answering all my questions in a very informed but easy to understand way. Then he was vaccinated and his teeth were checked and given a rasp, with the comment that they had been looked after well. All in all a clean bill of health - with a few things to watch – always a relief, especially since Boy is now 19 years old.

This was a really lovely prize to win and I would like to thank Ralph of Galley Hill Equine Surgery for sponsoring the Music Class at the Championships! I did feel guilty about the time taken to travel to me and was glad I had bought a bottle of wine as a thank you. Also thanks to the hardworking committee of the riding club and especially the person who found sponsors and prizes for each class as there were lots of very good prizes to be won. I still have a voucher for a free rug-wash from ‘The Ruggery’ which I look forward to using when rugs are back in use (I was for once very organised and had had all my rugs done just prior to the Championships!!)

Plaiting Bands

If you plait your horse’s mane you must have had the frustration of the plaiting bands snapping just when you have finished the plait? I had this problem when doing my gelderlander’s mane so I sourced some elastic plating bands that don’t break when used for plaiting up.

They are available in black, white, brown and grey and are packaged in a handy zip up bag. Economical at only £2.50 for 400 bands (+ post & packaging where applicable - approx £1.00 dependent on order quantity).
