Riding Club Team Information

Some people have commented that they are not sure what opportunities exist to ride in the teams for or as an individual for EEFDG so the following sets out the team events and how to get involved.

Please...

PLEASE can anyone interested in representing the Club in ANY of the above get in touch with either Jacquie Field or myself, preferably by email. We have a huge membership now and with both of us working full time simply don’t have the time to ring round every member, so we rely on you not to be too modest and put yourselves forward! A club numnah will be provided for anyone who is representing the club at an area or National competition- they should be returned to the team managers for washing after the class

My email address is emmaequus@btconnect.com

Team News

EEDFG teams had a very successful day at the recent Area Winter Dressage Qualifier held at Norton Heath on 8th October.

The junior team was made up of Amy Adamthwaite, India Sheridan and Jodie Richter.  Amy kept up her amazing record of 100% wins in Area competitions by winning the Prelim with over 70% -  very well done Amy, we are proud to have you representing us!  New team member India Sheridan rode the adorable Banana beautifully to finish in 3rd place in the Novice.  The team finished equal 2nd but were relegated to 3rd place as when there is equality the 4th team member’s score comes into play, and they only had 3 riders due to the 4th person falling ill the day before.  This happened at the Winter Championships last year and is a tough way to drop a place – we really need some more juniors to come forward to support the absolutely brilliant ones we already have!

The Senior teams literally swept the board.  The EEFDG Oaks consisted of Sophie Butchart, Jan Greenlees, Carly Dimes and Angela Fenn, and the Elms team was Jacquie Field, Michelle West, Suzanne Adamthwaite and Gemma Pye.  Our riders dominated in the Novice class, which was won by Sophie, with Jan in 3rd place narrowly beating Jacquie into 4th.  New member Angela showed what a great asset she is to the Club by winning the Prelim convincingly.  The Oaks team finished with two wins and a 3rd and won the team event by a wide margin, and have qualified for the Winter National Championships at Hartpury in April.  The Elms team weren’t far behind in 4th place.

On the day out of our 11 riders 9 scored over 65% and 3 had amazing plus-70% scores.  What a wealth of talent we have!!

A huge Well Done to everybody involved, and the very best of luck for the seniors at the Championships.

Please email Emma Wakefield at emmaequus@btconnect.com if you would like to ride for the Club or have any queries.

Forthcoming Team Events

Combined Training and Royal Windsor Qualifier

The next Team event is the Festival of the Horse Combined Training team competition being held at Norton Heath on Saturday 11th February.  This is a team event only (sadly no individuals) for juniors and seniors.  Each team will consist of:

2 riders riding Prelim 14 dressage test and showjumping round at 75cm – horses/ponies to have 0 BD points or BS winnings

2 riders riding Novice 27 dressage test and showjumping round at 85cm – horses/ponies can have up to 124 BD points and up to £175 BS winnings

Although the qualifier is on a surface, please be aware that should you qualify for the Championships these are held at the Festival of the Hunter and will be on grass, so you must be prepared to ride on grass if you put yourself forward for this event.

Also being held on 11th February at Norton Heath is the Royal Windsor Dressage Area Qualifier.  This is an individual competition to qualify for the finals at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.  It is open to seniors and juniors, riding horses or ponies with no BD points.  The test being used is Prelim 12.  Area 8 Liaison Committee have agreed to restrict clubs to 5 competitors per section (ie 5 juniors and 5 seniors) so if you would like to be considered for one of the places please send me an email registering your interest and giving a brief outline of your recent competition achievements.  If we have more than 5 people applying to do each section then results will be taken into consideration for selection process so it is important that you tell me how fantastic you and your horse are!

Dressage to Music Qualifier

This is an individual competition being held at Sparrows Hill on Saturday 26th May.  There will be classes at novice (0 points), novice with up to 124 points and elementary for seniors, and novice for juniors.

Please email me to register interest and request further information.

Please note that the Championships are held at the Aintree arena in Liverpool, and if you qualify the Club does expect you to go to the Championships so please don’t apply if unprepared to make the long journey.

Summer Dressage Qualifier

This will be held again at Stratford Hills (on grass)  on 23rd June .  Classes for Juniors and Seniors at Prelim – Medium level, including pairs.  More details nearer the time!

Horse Trials and Showjumping

Although we are predominantly a dressage club, if any other our members would like to enter area showjumping or eventing competitions, either as individuals or get together a team, we are willing to put the entries in.  The Area Eventing is probably being held on Sunday 10th June at Ely Eventing Centre (subject to confirmation) and the Area Showjumping will be at the Tendring Showground near Clacton on 30th June for juniors and 1st July for seniors.  Please let me know if you would like any further information
